Thirdle

Thirdle is a word puzzle with three hidden words arranged like a miniature crossword. The words share letters where they intersect, so each answer must fit the others. Two correct crossing letters are revealed at the start. Your goal is to find all three words within six attempts.

HOW TO PLAY THIRDLE

Make a Complete Guess

Fill the grid so it forms three valid words, then submit them together. After each guess, the letters change color to show what you have found:

Green: Correct word and correct position.
Orange: Correct word, but a different position.
Purple: The letter belongs in another word on the grid.
Black: The letter is not needed, or all required instances of it have already been found.

A letter can appear more than once, so check the full set of clues before ruling it out.

Suppose an A in your first word turns orange, while an R turns purple. Keep A in that word, but try it in another position. Look for a place for R in one of the other words. Before submitting the revised guess, check whether its letters also fit at the intersections.

The example shows why the colors do different jobs: orange helps you rearrange a word, while purple sends you to another part of the grid.

WHY THE CROSSING LETTERS MATTER

A possible answer may fit its own row or column but fail where it crosses another word. Start with the two revealed letters, then use each confirmed intersection to narrow both words that meet there. This lets you reject answers that look plausible on their own but cannot fit the complete puzzle.
