SOLVE THE WORD USING NUMBER CLUES

Woodle is a word guessing game with a twist: it tells you how many letters you got right, but not which ones. Instead of following colored tiles, you compare the clues from each guess to work out the hidden word.

HOW TO PLAY WOODLE

Enter a five-letter word and submit it. Woodle returns two numbers beside your guess:

• First number: Letters that match the answer in the correct position.
• Second number: Letters that appear in the answer but are in the wrong position.

For example, 2, 1 means two letters are in their correct spots and one other letter belongs somewhere else in the word. Woodle does not identify those three letters for you. Keep guessing and compare the results until you find the answer.

You can tap letters in your guess history to change their colors. These marks are your own notes, not clues confirmed by the game. Change them whenever a later guess proves an earlier idea wrong.

A Three-Guess Example

Suppose the hidden word is PLANT:

• CRANE → 2, 0. Two letters are correctly positioned, but the numbers do not tell you which two.
• SLANT → 4, 0. Four letters now match in position. This guess gives you a much clearer pattern to investigate.
• PLANT → 5, 0. All five letters are in the right places, so the word is solved.

The lesson is to compare guesses rather than treat each pair of numbers on its own. A new word can help you test both the letters you chose and where you placed them.

HOW TO MAKE BETTER GUESSES

When a result is hard to interpret, change a few letters or move a letter to another position. Compare the new pair of numbers with the previous one: did the count of correctly positioned letters rise or fall?

Use the color marks to record possibilities, but keep them flexible. A letter that seems correct after one guess may turn out to be a different letter in the same row. The numbers are the evidence; your marks are only a way to organize it.
