Dabble

Dabble is a daily word puzzle from Nerdcube Daily that challenges you to earn the highest score possible using 14 letter tiles across four turns. You build connected words on a board containing special scoring squares. Each move involves choosing a word, finding a useful position, and considering the letters you will have left. Success depends on both your vocabulary and how well you plan your placements.

BUILD YOUR BOARD IN FOUR TURNS

Start at the Center Star

Drag letters from your tray onto the board to form a valid word. Your first word must cover the center star.

Before submitting, you can change your arrangement. Tap a newly placed tile to return it to the tray, or select Clear placed tiles to remove all tiles you are currently placing. Once you are satisfied, choose Submit Word.

Connect Your Next Words

Each subsequent word must connect to words already on the board. Examine the existing letters and surrounding spaces to find your next placement.

After submitting, check the letters remaining in your tray before planning another move. The turn counter shows how far you have progressed through the four-turn game.

HOW DABBLE SCORING WORKS

Letter Values and Bonus Squares

The small number on each tile indicates its point value. Special squares increase the value of an individual letter or the entire word:

  • DL — Double Letter: doubles the letter’s value.
  • TL — Triple Letter: triples the letter’s value.
  • DW — Double Word: doubles the word’s score.
  • TW — Triple Word: triples the word’s score.

For example, COD has a basic score of 6 points: C is worth 3, O is worth 1, and D is worth 2. If C lands on a Double Letter square, its value becomes 6, bringing the total to 9 points before any word multiplier.

This example illustrates the calculation rather than a solution to a particular daily puzzle.

End-of-Game Letter Bonus

At the end of the game, you receive additional points based on how many of your original tiles you used:

  • 12 tiles: +5 points.
  • 13 tiles: +10 points.
  • All 14 tiles: +20 points.

These bonuses do not stack. Using all 14 tiles awards 20 extra points, rather than the sum of all three rewards.

PLAN BEYOND YOUR FIRST WORD

Save a Workable Mix of Letters

Before committing, consider which vowels and consonants will remain. A valuable opening can leave an awkward combination that limits your later choices.

Leave Room to Build

Look beyond the immediate placement. A word that blocks useful spaces may make it harder to connect your next one or reach nearby bonus squares.

Compare Points With Tile Usage

The longest word is not always the best move. Weigh its letter values and multipliers against the opportunity to use more tiles and earn an end-of-game bonus.

DAILY BOARDS AND THE ARCHIVE

Dabble offers a new daily challenge, with each puzzle identified by its date and number. For additional practice, open the Archive and browse earlier puzzles by month. The archive contains previous daily challenges rather than a separate mode that generates unlimited random boards.
