SQORDY
More games like this
SQORDY is a daily word puzzle where you complete a square grid with words running both horizontally and vertically. Each letter belongs to two intersecting words, so finding the right answer requires you to consider both directions.
The game presents a 4×4 board and starts you with seven tokens. Instead of submitting complete words, you select individual squares and enter one letter at a time. Colored feedback helps you discover where letters belong, while the token system gives every decision a cost or a reward.
BUILD THE SQUARE ONE LETTER AT A TIME
Begin by selecting any unsolved square. The on-screen keyboard shows clues for that position, helping you identify which letters remain possible. Enter a letter, then examine the feedback before deciding what to try next.
Your goal is to uncover the hidden word square. Filling a row with a plausible word is only part of the challenge: its letters must also fit the words running down the columns.
Follow this sequence as you work:
- Select a square you want to solve.
- Check the available keyboard clues.
- Enter a letter that fits your current deductions.
- Read the feedback and reconsider the intersecting words.
- Continue until the entire square is correct.
You can choose another square when one position leaves you uncertain. Progress elsewhere may provide the missing information.
UNDERSTAND THE COLOR CLUES
SQORDY uses keyboard shading and colored backgrounds to communicate different kinds of information:
- Black-filled letters: These are not possible choices for the selected square.
- Grey-filled letters: These remain possible, but are not confirmed answers.
- Blue background: The letter appears in the selected column, but belongs in another position.
- Orange background: The letter appears in the selected row, but belongs in another position.
- Split-colored background: The letter appears in both the row and column, but is incorrect in the selected square.
- Green background: The letter is in its correct position.
For example, an orange clue for A tells you to look elsewhere in that row for A. It does not identify the destination square automatically. Combine the clue with the emerging word patterns to narrow down its location.
MAKE EVERY TOKEN COUNT
Each incorrect entry costs one token, including an entry that reveals a useful row or column clue. A correctly placed letter gives you one token back.
This creates a balance between gathering information and making confident placements. Testing a letter can help, but repeated uncertain guesses may exhaust your tokens before you finish.
Watch your remaining supply and use the information already available. When several clues point toward the same answer, a correct placement advances the board and restores a token.
