WHAT IS CONFUSLE?
Confusle is a daily word puzzle created by acemuzzy that adds deceptive clues to Wordle-style gameplay. You have eight attempts to find a five-letter English word, but each unsuccessful row before the final guess contains exactly one incorrectly colored tile. The answer stays fixed, so success depends on comparing clues and deciding which feedback to trust.
GAMEPLAY
Enter a valid five-letter English word and press Enter. The tiles change color to provide feedback:
- Green: The letter is in the correct position.
- Yellow: The letter belongs in the answer but occupies a different position.
- Gray: The letter is absent, or that guess contains more copies of it than the answer does.
Here is the twist: exactly one tile gives false feedback in each unsuccessful row before the final attempt. A green tile might be incorrect, while a gray tile could conceal a useful letter.
You have eight guesses to find the answer. A correct guess receives truthful feedback, and the eighth guess also displays its actual colors without introducing a false clue.
One False Clue Changes Your Next Guess
Imagine the hidden word is PLANT, and you enter CRANE.
Under normal Wordle rules, A and N would both turn green because they occupy the correct positions. C, R, and E would turn gray.
Confusle might instead show A as gray, leaving the other four tiles accurate. If you immediately eliminate A, you could spend your next attempt pursuing the wrong possibilities.
This hypothetical example shows why a single row cannot settle every question. You need to compare feedback across guesses, test uncertain letters, and identify the misleading tile before drawing firm conclusions.
EASY MODE OR HARD MODE?
Easy Mode: Past Lies Become Visible
In the default mode, submitting another guess reveals the misleading tile in the previous row by turning its letter red. The tile’s background color stays unchanged.
That red letter identifies feedback you should reconsider. The other four tiles in that row provide reliable information, helping you narrow down your next guess.
Hard Mode: Identify the Lies Yourself
Hard Mode removes these helpful markers during solving. You must track possible lies yourself and look for explanations that fit the feedback across multiple rows.
Enable it before entering your first guess. This mode suits players who want a tougher deduction challenge.
TIPS FOR READING UNRELIABLE CLUES
- Start with common letters. A word containing several frequently used consonants and vowels gives you useful material to investigate.
- Treat early colors as provisional. Avoid ruling out a letter after one gray appearance or committing to a position after one green tile.
- Review the red letters. In Easy Mode, revisit earlier rows after each submission to separate accurate clues from misleading ones.
- Test a specific uncertainty. Choose a word that checks a doubtful letter or position while also exploring new possibilities.
- Check repeated letters carefully. A gray duplicate does not necessarily mean that letter is completely absent from the answer.
