WHAT ARE COWORDLE AND VICTORDLE?

Cowordle is a two-player word game in which you race to find a hidden five-letter word. The game is currently called Victordle on Britannica; Cowordle is its earlier name. Both names refer to the same head-to-head challenge, where each guess brings you closer to the answer—and may help your opponent too.

HOW TO PLAY

Enter a valid five-letter word and submit it to reveal the clues. A green tile means the letter is in the correct position. Yellow means the letter appears in the answer but belongs elsewhere. Gray means the letter is not in the answer. Use these clues to find the word before your opponent.

Turn-by-Turn: Share the Clues

You and your opponent alternate guesses on the same board, with about 30 seconds to enter a word on each turn. Both players can use the clues revealed so far. Think carefully: your guess might give your opponent the information they need to win.

Duel: Race on Separate Boards

Both players guess at the same time on separate boards. You have up to six attempts to find the word and can see your opponent’s progress. Solve your own puzzle before they solve theirs.

A WORD BATTLE IN THREE GUESSES

Imagine that the hidden word is WORLD in a Turn-by-Turn match.

1. The first player guesses CROWN. R, O, and W turn yellow because they are in the answer but in the wrong positions.
2. The opponent guesses WOULD. W, O, L, and D turn green, while U turns gray.
3. The first player sees that R must replace U, enters WORLD, and wins.

The opponent’s guess nearly solved the puzzle, but it also handed the first player a decisive clue. That is what makes the shared board interesting: every turn can change both players’ chances.

TIPS FOR WINNING COWORDLE

• Test useful letters early. Start with a word containing several common letters instead of repeating letters you have already ruled out.
• Think between turns. In Turn-by-Turn, use your opponent’s time to prepare possible answers.
• Look for new information. In Duel, test unused letters when the clues still fit several words.
