FIBBLE: FIND THE WORD, SPOT THE LIE

Fibble gives the familiar five-letter word puzzle a deceptive twist: exactly one color clue in every row is wrong. To uncover the hidden word, you must compare guesses, spot contradictions, and decide which tiles deserve your trust. Even a green square can lead you astray.

WHAT IS FIBBLE?

Fibble is a browser-based word game that combines vocabulary with logical deduction. Created by K & R Garfield and coded by keldor, it builds on Wordle’s guessing format while making its feedback deliberately unreliable.

You can play without downloading software or creating an account. The challenge is finding a word that fits the evidence while allowing for precisely one false clue in each row.

HOW TO PLAY FIBBLE

Start with the Given Word

Each puzzle opens with a five-letter word already entered and colored. Treat this as your first set of clues, including one lie.

The board has nine rows, but the opening row is supplied automatically, leaving eight guesses of your own. Enter a valid five-letter English word and press Enter to submit it.

Read the Colors—and Question One

The colors follow Wordle’s basic meanings:

  • Green: The letter belongs in that position.
  • Yellow: The letter appears elsewhere in the answer.
  • Gray: The letter does not appear in the answer.

However, exactly one tile in every feedback row displays the wrong color. The other four are truthful.

Compare rows before accepting a clue as fact. A gray letter may still belong in the answer, while a green letter may be misplaced or absent entirely.

Mark Suspected Lies

Use the flag tool to track tiles you suspect are lying. Right-click or long-press to highlight tiles you know are truthful, or flagged tiles you are certain are false.

These marks record your deductions; they do not ask the game to verify them.

One False Tile: A Simple Example

Imagine the hidden word is PLANT and you guess PLANE.

Normal feedback would show P, L, A, and N in green, with E in gray. Fibble could instead show A in yellow.

In this example, A’s yellow color is the single lie. The remaining four clues are accurate. Comparing that row with later guesses can help you discover that A actually belongs in the third position.

DAILY PUZZLES, UNLIMITED PLAY, AND HARD MODE

Daily mode offers a puzzle to return to each day. Unlimited mode lets you keep playing, while the Calendar provides access to earlier daily puzzles.

For an additional restriction, enable Hard mode. Each new guess must be consistent with exactly one false clue in every previous feedback row.

Fibble also includes a dark theme, high-contrast colors, alternative keyboard layouts, and statistics covering your win rate, streaks, and guess distribution.
