CUSTOM WORDLE: CREATE AND SHARE YOUR OWN PUZZLE

In Custom Wordle, you choose the answer. Pick a secret word, generate a link, and send it to someone who has six guesses to solve your puzzle. The word can be longer or shorter than Wordle’s usual five letters, so you can make a quick challenge or give your friends something trickier to work through.

CREATE A WORDLE CHALLENGE

Choose Your Secret Word

Select Make your own wordle and enter the word you want others to guess. The number of letters you choose determines how many tiles appear in each row of the puzzle. A familiar word makes a welcoming challenge; a longer or less common one may take more thought.

For example, if you choose PLANT, the person solving your puzzle will see a five-letter grid. They will not see the answer you entered.

Generate and Share the Link

Click Generate Link, then send the link to a friend, classmate, or family member. Everyone who opens it can try to solve the word you selected. You set the challenge; the people with the link make the guesses.

SOLVE THE PUZZLE IN SIX GUESSES

The solver enters a word with the same number of letters as the hidden answer. After each guess, the tile colors show what to try next:

• Green: The letter is correct and in the right position.
• Yellow: The letter is in the answer but belongs in another position.
• Gray: The letter is not in the answer.

Follow the Clues: A Three-Guess Example

Suppose the secret word is PLANT. The solver starts with CRANE. The A and N tiles turn green because they are in the third and fourth positions of the answer. C, R, and E turn gray.

For the second guess, the solver tries SLANT. Now L, A, N, and T are green. Only the first letter is wrong. Replacing S with P gives PLANT, solving the puzzle on the third guess.

The useful habit is to carry each clue forward: keep green letters in place, move yellow letters, and rule out gray letters as you narrow down the answer.

MAKE YOUR CHALLENGE FUN TO SOLVE

Think about who will receive your link before choosing an answer. For a classroom activity, you might use a word from a recent lesson. For friends, try a word tied to a shared interest. A longer word can be fun, but make sure the challenge feels fair when the solver has only the colored tiles to guide them.
